Reviewed in the United States on January 29, 2017 Verified Purchase I was really worried whether I would like this product or not, but I bit the bullet and guess what... I didn't. However, I ended up not liking this for different reasons than I was originally worried about. Originally, I was concerned the grip would get in the way of scraping off excess buttercream from the tool. However, this product's real downfall is its rounded corner edges (although thats my fault that I didn't notice it in the pictures). You NEED square edges to get a clean edge on the bottom of your cake unless you plan on ALWAYS doing a bottom border which I do not. Things I DO like about this product...I like the straight metal edge. The grip was pretty comfortable. I thought the size could've been a little larger (I don't understand why people think its too large, weird), but overall I liked the size. I also think the weight is fine. I'm not sure how well the product actually smoothes a cake since I knew right away from the corner edges that it wouldn't work for me. I returned it immediately and went to a hardware store and bought a drywall tape smoother for about the same price. Reviewed in the United States on June 10, 2018 Verified Purchase I bought this Wilton cake icing smoother because I am going to bake a cake for my son's birthday. This product feels good in your hands, this icing smoother has an even amount of weight all the way around. I love my Wilton products!!!! 5.0 out of 5 stars I love Wilton products, this feels good in your hands... Reviewed in the United States on May 31, 2020 Verified Purchase I really like this smoother. It feels very durable and rugged. The metal edge just seems to work better than plastic for me. I kind of wish that one of the corners had a right angle instead of a curve, but I'm sure Wilton just wanted to avoid sharp edges. It hasn't stopped me from getting really smooth cakes. I have also used it to cut fondant because of it's nice straight edge. All and all, I expect to use this smoother for a very long time. I couldn't be happier with my purchase! Reviewed in the United States on January 19, 2019 Verified Purchase This may be one of those things you just have to get used to. Personally, I found it hard to hold and when you have a large amount of icing you're smoothing it builds up on the blade and gets messy. If the blad was larger without the plastic in the middle I think it would work better. For me, I found using a plain old inexpensive metal drywall scraper (sanitized of course) was easier to use and smooths cakes perfectly. Reviewed in the United States on September 15, 2015 Verified Purchase A great smoothing tool is essential in the baking world. I really, REALLY wanted this to be THE ONE for me. It's longer than others, so it's perfect for cakes with great height. I just really wish the edges of the cake smoother were not rounded off. It prevents the smoother from getting that perfect clean look at the bottom of the cake. You fix that and it's a solid 5 stars. Until them, it's a 4. Reviewed in the United States on January 4, 2018 Verified Purchase After using this a few times. I can say I still prefer the good ole spackle spatula you get from the hardware store. This is great though. It's width worked well on 9x13 cakes for sure. Round cakes are where I'm not thrilled with. Still keep in my decorating arsenal. 4.0 out of 5 stars Cake After using this a few times. I can say I still prefer the good ole spackle spatula you get from the hardware store. This is great though. Reviewed in the United States on April 22, 2018 Verified Purchase I give it 2 stars simply because it seems really well made. But the design is poor to me. The gripper piece in the middle gets in the way when I try to scrape the excess frosting off the smoother onto the lip of the bowl, so some of the frosting just gets stuck on the scraper and I have to remove it with a spatula. Just a waste of time. Other than that, it is really well made. Reviewed in the United States on March 4, 2020 Verified Purchase I'm a newbie to cake decorating and I used it with ease, and if I can, anyone can. It was very smooth to use, cleans very easily. The handle grip in the middle is a nice enough idea but in practice becomes a little tedious if you want to do a long scrape - your buttercream will build up as you're scraping and get lodged in the handle. The ends are also curved which is no good if you want bone straight edges from the base of your cake. Better (straight) ones out there. This was a waste of money for me.

Don't buy. A waste of money. The edges are curves, so you can't get a sharpe finish on thr bottom. The worst part is the grip. It's in the middle of the smoother so strains the fingers and gives hardly any area to smooth with. Will have to get another smoother. A complete waste

Bought this icing smoother as I was covering a 4 tier cake plus, one 9" cake with white chocolate ganache, and one 9" cake with milk chocolate ganache (first time ever of making so large a cake, first time at making white chocolate ganache)! Thought that it would be much better than struggling with a palette knife to smooth the tops/sides... ...however, I must need much more practise as I resorted to the good ol' palette knife...
